I wonder if the British and Australian Airforce had the latest Spitfire (Mk V) and Hurricane (Mk II) at their disposal in Singapore in 1941, what the outcome would have been.

The title is ironic. I mean, how can it be considered to be the “fall of Singapore”, if Singapore pre-world war 2 was “acquired”/stolen by european invaders from half a world away? Maybe a more appropriate title would be “Singapore changes hands”?
Happy Anzac Day !
It appears to me that military leadership was quite poor in Malaya before and during the war. It was almost as if Churchill kept his best generals in the European and North African theatres and sent his second rate talent to defend Malaya. I had always been told that the HMS Repulse and Pince of Wales were sunk because there was no air cover. Some aircraft carrier that was meant to rendezvous with the 2 ships couldn't make it on time. This is the first time I've heard that fighter pilots were kept waiting on the ground for 3 hours in Kuantan and only took off after both ships were sunk. Same with the abysmal defence of Singapore. Timid military leadership by the Brits allowed Tomoyuki Yamashita to overrrun the joint with audacious tactics and inferior numbers.
